Long leave

in Colony.

Leave for

This leave may not be spent in the Colony except on

special grounds approved by the Director and subject to the

following conditions :-

(i) A medical certificate by a Government officer

must be produced to show that the teacher's

health would not be adversely affected. (ii) The duration of leave shall not exceed eight

months less the normal period of travel.

At the discretion of the Manager or Committee of

Management, non-European staff shall be eligible for leave on the same conditions as staff with similar qualifications in

Government service.

Locally recruited staff and married women teachers will not normally be entitled to long leave or passages

except in special cases approved by the Director of Education.

28.

No-pay leave may be granted for special purposes on

the recommendation of the Director of Education.

PASSAGES.

29.

The expenditure may with the approval of the Director of Education include provision for the cost of second class passages between London and Hong Kong, or between the actual port of embarkation or disembarkation and

Hong Kong, whichever may be less, for teachers appointed from overseas on first appointment, on taking approved leave, and on approved retirement. Similar passages may also be approved, under certain restrictions as for Government

servants, for the wife and family of a European teacher.

RENT.

30. (i) In respect of premises not owned by the school authorities, the expenditure may include the rent and rates actually paid, subject to the approval of the Director of Education after consultation with the Government Assessor.

(ii) Any Crown Rent or Land Rent paid for Grant School purposes may also be included in annual recurrent expenditure with the approval of the Director of Education.

LOANS & INTEREST.

31.

Interest on loans incurred in the educational

interest of the Colony may with the approval of the Director of Education be included in approved expenditure provided that the rate of interest is approved by the Treasury; in special cases Government may grant interest free loans for
